Grants and Resources that Support Language Access Programs in Law Enforcement Agencies

Law enforcement agencies (LEA) often face language barriers when communicating with individuals or communities who are limited English proficient, or LEP. Accurate and reliable translation and interpretation services are necessary for public safety but can be costly if resources are not appropriately allocated. Featuring insights from law enforcement agencies that have implemented language access plans in their jurisdictions, this webinar will discuss promising practices for building and financing language access programs. Attendees will hear from state and federal funders who will discuss funding opportunities that support language access initiatives, including guidance on available funding, tips, tools, and the application process. The National Immigrant Women’s Advocacy Project (NIWAP) and the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence, in partnership with the Federal Coordination and Compliance Section, Civil Rights Division, U.S. Department of Justice, will also provide an overview of available language access resources, language access tools, and technical assistance.
