A Closer Look at the COPS Office: The Response Center

The COPS Office Response Center is a central source of information about COPS Office resources and programs. Not just for COPS grantees, the Response Center serves both the public and the criminal justice community in a professional, efficient, and courteous manner. Whether for information about grants and program funding opportunities, legislative initiatives, training programs, or ordering new or earlier publications, CDs, or other resources or products, Response Center specialists can help.

In an average month, the Response Center receives more than 6,000 phone calls and e-mails. They range from COPS Office grantees requesting assistance managing their grants and completing monthly reports to individuals and organizations requesting COPS Office knowledge resources. The Response Center maintains a facility that houses more than 200 COPS Office publication titles and has produced more than 200,000 resource CDs. To date, more than 2 million products, an average of approximately 100,000 a month, have been delivered to requestors.

Customer service is the top priority for the Response Center. Through person-to-person service, all callers have direct access to resources, prospective grantees can learn about funding opportunities and receive technical assistance with application procedures, and grantees can receive assistance with programmatic and financial inquiries on existing COPS Office grants.
