Nominations are now open for the Sixth Annual Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in Policing.

The award recognizes individual state, local, or tribal sworn police officers, deputies, and troopers for exceptional efforts in innovative policing strategies, criminal investigations, and field operations that have proven effective in enforcing our laws.

Across this country’s more than 18,000 local law enforcement agencies, individual rank-and-file officers, deputies, and troopers serve important and invaluable roles in the communities they serve by practicing proven and effective policing strategies. By distinguishing and rewarding their efforts, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) strives to promote and sustain its commitment to policing and to advance fair and effective policing practices nationwide. The DOJ is committed to supporting initiatives and opportunities that exemplify the enormous importance of law enforcement officers, deputies, and troopers in keeping this great nation’s communities safe.

Eligible candidates for this award must be rank-and-file officers, deputies, or troopers in non-supervisory positions and must demonstrate active exceptional performance in one of three areas:
