With the U.S. hosting the World Cup in 2026 and the Olympics in 2028, the Department of State is expanding its outreach efforts to law enforcement agencies to ensure awareness of U.S. international treaty obligations under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations regarding the arrest and detainment of foreign nationals.
