‘We need to [help…] young people in constructive ways to make them viable, responsible and successful. Helping requires engagement, trust and working together.’
COPS Office Director Phil Keith, June 2019
SchoolSafety.gov launched in February, 2020 as a central repository for K-12 and higher education stakeholders to access thousands of free resources, tools, guidance, and best practices for supporting a positive, secure learning environment for students. The website includes information for school administrators and educators, families, and law enforcement, including the following:

  • The School Safety Readiness Tool, an assessment used to evaluate a school’s safety posture across ten foundational elements of school safety. The site also includes an action plan with task prioritization, options for consideration, aligned resources, and grant opportunities specific to individual needs.
  • A Secure Information Sharing Platform for designated school personnel to share school safety ideas, practices, plans, and tactics in a protected environment.
  • Bullying and Cyberbullying prevention resources to teach youth how to identify and respond to bullying.

Schoolsafety.gov will be maintained via a federal partnership between the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, Department of Education, and Department of Health & Human Services.
