Human trafficking can be a complex crime to investigate. Understanding the nuances and employing effective investigative techniques is crucial for successful case resolution and victim support. The IACP has released a comprehensive online toolkit to enhance police agency response to human trafficking. The resources will better equip police to identify and support human trafficking victims while conducting trauma-informed, victim-centered investigations and holding offenders accountable. Toolkit components include the following:

  • Police Response to Human Trafficking: Agency Self-Assessment
  • Police Response to Human Trafficking: Agency Action Planning Guide
  • Police Agency Policy Considerations for Human Trafficking Response and Investigations
  • Guidelines for Developing and Vetting Human Trafficking Training
  • Human Trafficking Police Case Report Checklist
  • Human Trafficking Investigations Tip Sheet

To further support learning and application of these tools, the COPS Office offers three no-cost, online, educational opportunities. These webinar recordings provide an opportunity to learn directly from experts and gain effective approaches and strategies in combatting human trafficking:

  • A Hidden Crime: Labor Trafficking in the U.S.
  • Developing Data-informed Responses to Human Trafficking
  • Evolving Police Responses to Human Trafficking: Lessons Learned from Three Jurisdictions
