COPS Office Budget, Fiscal Year 2008
The Fiscal Year 2008 Omnibus appropriations bill for the Department of Justice was signed by President Bush on December 26. The COPS Office received $587,233,000. Here are highlights from the budget:
- Community Policing Development, $3,760,000: To support training and technical assistance activities
- Indian Country, $15,040,000: To improve the infrastructure of tribal law enforcement agencies
- Secure Our Schools, $15,050,000: To help purchase technology and equipment to increase school safety
- COPS Hiring, $20,000,000: For hiring additional community policing officers
- Methamphetamine, $61,186,000: To combat the production, trafficking, and use of methamphetamine
- Law Enforcement Technology, $205,366,000 For law enforcement technologies and interoperable communications systems
