The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) presents the Essentials for Leaders series. This series consists of summaries of existing and new COPS Office publications and resources, tailored for law enforcement executives, policymakers, and others who are interested in learning more about community policing innovations and best practices. Over the last decade the COPS Office has produced a comprehensive library of community policing resources for practitioners and others, and we intend to build on this work by providing this information in an abridged format tailored for police executives in particular.
